Spheres have always intrigued me and early in my beading career I took to covering spheres with beads. When my daughter was engaged I felt the need to add to the wedding with beads so I got permission from her to make beaded balls as a wedding favor for the guests.
I love containers and I ended up making three Mikki Ferrugiaro celebration tins, two with pastel matte beads and one Christmas tin with glossy beads in Christmas colors. The layering of peyote over peyote adds to the appeal of these tins. While working with containers I did some bead work over different bottles.
Holidays are an opportunity to use many beaded items. I enjoy making spheres that have become ornaments on my wire tree. I made many blue white and crystal balls that can be snow balls for the base of the tree. I also display them in a glass sphere with a battery operated led light string placed in the middle so they shine even more.
I am a natural puzzler and as a child I got a set of blue plastic cube shapes that you can manipulate around into different forms so naturally, now I needed to make it out of beads. Below is my Beaded cube puzzle made over wooden cubes with size 15 seed beads. They are not just cubes but groups of cubes sewn together.
I made four octopuses, this was necessary as I kept giving them away. The Purple octopus went to my lifelong friend in Texas who adores sea creatures. The green octopus is the one I kept for myself. They are started with Cath Thomas Tulip Tassel pattern for the head, then the addition of the legs is up to you as there is not published pattern for them. My third octopus was the black and pink one modeled after Ursula from Little Mermaid. You can see in the pictures that she comes complete with suction cups and a beak.
I wanted to make a bracelet with a connector that was beautiful and easy to work with. I selected the mag lock connector then built a pattern around the magnet that hides the mechanical side of the clasp. They, can be joined to together to make a necklace which is very nice.
